Open edX is an open-source teaching and learning platform with separate authoring and learner experiences. Studio supports course creation and management, while the learning management system delivers content, assessments, discussions, schedules, progress and certificates. Evaluation scenario
Build a short course with several sections, video, text, graded questions, a discussion and a completion requirement. Enrol learners with different roles, schedule a release, submit correct and incorrect answers, post in the discussion and complete the course on desktop and mobile. Ask an instructor to update content after enrolment and confirm how the change affects progress, grading and communication. Include a support user who must diagnose a learner problem without receiving unnecessary access to grades or personal data.
Authoring and reuse
Evaluate Studio with instructional designers and subject experts. Test course outlines, units, reusable components, imports, exports, preview and publishing controls. Establish a review path for accessibility, copyright, assessment quality and version ownership. If teams plan to reuse content across programmes, prove how changes are governed so a shared component cannot silently alter an approved course.
Learner experience and analytics
Review navigation, deadlines, progress, notifications, discussions, transcripts and assessment feedback with representative learners. Include assistive technology and limited-bandwidth conditions. Reconcile learner dashboards and analytics to individual enrolment and assessment records. Define which measures indicate participation, mastery and completion before relying on dashboard totals for operational or funding decisions.
Architecture and operations
Map identity, hosting, email, video, storage, integrations, data exports, backups and upgrades. Open edX can be extended through components and connected services, but every customisation creates testing and maintenance work. Maintain an approved extension inventory, rehearse an upgrade on production-like data and document recovery for course content, learner records and uploaded files.

Measure course-building effort, learner completion, assessment reliability, support demand, accessibility findings and administrative time. Confirm current release requirements, hosting responsibilities and required extensions with official documentation or an approved provider.
