Information we collect
We collect information that is needed to operate BBS and to respond to requests made through the site. This may include:
- account details such as your name, username, email address and profile information you choose to provide;
- information submitted with a software listing, vendor profile, review, rating, comment, contact request or other form;
- messages sent through the Contact Us form, including the details you enter in that form;
- your optional preference to receive email updates, when you choose it during registration; and
- technical information generated while using the site, such as IP address, browser and device information, requested pages, timestamps, referral information, and security or error logs.
How we use information
We use information to provide accounts and site features, review and publish submissions where the relevant form or process is intended for publication, respond to enquiries, maintain the security and reliability of BBS, and improve the site.
We send email updates only where you have chosen to receive them. This preference is optional and is not selected by default during registration. You can ask to stop those messages at any time by contacting us or using an unsubscribe option provided in an email.
Public submissions
Some content submitted to BBS, such as software listings, reviews, ratings and comments, may be made public when that is the purpose of the relevant feature. Please do not include personal, confidential or sensitive information in content you intend to publish.
When we share information
We do not sell raw email lists or user contact databases. We may share information with service providers that help operate, secure or host BBS only as needed for those services, or where disclosure is required to protect the site or comply with a legal obligation.
We may share a contact request with a named software vendor only when you explicitly ask us to connect you with that vendor or submit a request intended for that vendor. We do not treat registration or a general interest in a product category as permission to pass your contact details to vendors.
Cookies and similar technology
BBS uses cookies and similar local browser technology that are needed for functions such as keeping a session active, signing in, maintaining security and remembering site preferences. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Turning off some cookies may prevent parts of the site from working correctly.
Analytics and advertising controls
Cloudflare Web Analytics is used to measure aggregated traffic and performance information. It is separate from Google Analytics 4 and is not used for advertising personalisation.
Google Analytics 4 (Measurement ID G-XZ0BRDKXMG) will be used only after you give explicit consent through Analytics preferences, for aggregated statistics about traffic and interactions. Until you choose to allow analytics, analytics storage and ad storage are denied by default. You can reject analytics or change your choice at any time through Analytics preferences.
BBS does not use Google Signals, user ID or advertising personalisation in Google Analytics 4, and does not send personally identifiable information to Google Analytics. For information about how Google handles data, see Google’s Privacy Policy.
Links and third-party content
BBS may link to third-party websites and may display content supplied by software vendors, including verified product demonstration videos. Those third parties operate under their own terms and privacy policies. Please review them before providing information to a third party.
Retention and security
We retain information for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected, including to maintain an account or listing, respond to a request, protect the site, resolve disputes, and keep records where required. We use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect information, but no online service can guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and requests
You can update information available in your account profile. You may also ask us to correct or delete personal information, or to explain how it is being used, through our Contact Us page. We will consider requests in light of security, fraud-prevention, recordkeeping and other legitimate operational needs.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as BBS changes. The current version and its last-updated date will be posted on this page.
